Slovakia Ceramic Raw Materials Key Conclusions
Slovakia's annual ceramic raw material consumption is approximately 250,000 tonnes, with domestic kaolin production at 160,000 tonnes and import dependency around 35%. Full CBAM implementation in 2026 will raise costs for calcined kaolin and alumina imports by 3%–8%. Chinese raw material exports face dual pressures from freight and carbon costs, though specialty kaolin presents differentiated substitution opportunities.

Supply & Demand Fundamentals
Slovakia's total annual ceramic raw material demand is approximately 250,000 tonnes. Domestic supply is dominated by kaolin and clays, while feldspar and alumina are highly import-dependent. Building ceramics represent the largest consumption segment (40%), followed by refractories at 25%. Building market demand remains subdued in 2026, but industrial ceramics growth is steady.

Slovakia Market Snapshot
Slovakia's ceramic raw material market relies on imports to fill domestic production gaps. Kaolin CIF import prices range from €180 to €240/tonne, with key sources being the Czech Republic (38%), Germany (26%), Poland (16%), and China (9%). Import prices in Q2 2026 rose by approximately 5%, driven by energy cost pass-through.

Core Finished Product Supply & Demand
Slovakia's building ceramics (wall and floor tiles) annual output is approximately 18 million m², while domestic demand stands at about 22 million m², with the shortfall covered by imports (mainly from Italy and Spain). Refractory output is around 80,000 tonnes, roughly balanced. Household ceramics production is approximately 3,500 tonnes, with high dependence on premium imports.

Intermediate & Raw Material Value Chain
There is a significant price spread between Chinese FOB kaolin prices and Slovak CIF landed costs, with freight and carbon costs being the core transmission factors. The China-Europe alumina price spread has widened to €180–250/tonne, primarily driven by EU CBAM and maritime shipping costs.
