Slovakia Palm Oil Core Conclusions
As a landlocked EU member state, Slovakia imports approximately 35,000 tonnes of palm oil annually, completely reliant on overseas supply. With the full implementation of EUDR and high international CPO prices, import costs remain under pressure. Food processing demand is relatively stable, but biodiesel consumption faces policy uncertainty, resulting in a tight supply-demand balance.

Supply and Demand Fundamentals
Slovakia has no domestic palm oil crushing capacity; supply 100% relies on imports. In 2025, total imports were about 35,000 tonnes, consumption about 34,000 tonnes, and stock change around 1,000 tonnes. Food manufacturing is the largest consumer, biodiesel accounts for about 30%, and oleochemicals a small share.

China Market Status
China is the world's second-largest palm oil importer. In January-May 2026, imports totaled about 2.75 million tonnes, a slight year-on-year decline. The average port price of 24°C palm oil is around CNY 8,200/tonne, significantly influenced by international CPO prices. Port inventory remains at a medium-low level, refining capacity utilization is about 65%, and downstream food and chemical demand is stable.

Slovakia Market Status
Slovakia's CIF palm oil import price is approximately EUR 1,050–1,150 per tonne, up about 8% compared to the same period in 2025. Import dependency is 100%, with Indonesia (about 55%) and Malaysia (about 35%) as the main origins. Consumption is dominated by food processing, while biodiesel demand contracts due to EUDR and renewable energy policy adjustments.

Core Finished Products Supply & Demand
Slovakia's core palm oil-derived products include biodiesel, margarine, and bakery fats. Biodiesel output has declined due to EUDR raw material compliance reviews, while margarine production is relatively stable. Bakery fat demand is steady with slight growth, but raw material cost pressure is transmitted to end-product prices.

Intermediate and Raw Material Values
International palm oil producing region prices remain high: Malaysia CPO futures about MYR 4,300/tonne, Indonesia CPO export price about USD 920/tonne. China 24°C palm oil quoted at about CNY 8,200/tonne, Slovakia CIF landed price EUR 1,050–1,150/tonne. Freight and EUDR compliance costs push up European landed premiums.

Trade and Macro Indicators
Slovakia's 2025 GDP growth was about 2.2%, and food manufacturing accounts for about 8% of industrial output. Palm oil imports were valued at approximately EUR 38 million, accounting for about 2.1% of agricultural imports. The EUR/USD exchange rate is around 1.08; the relatively weaker euro raises the cost of dollar-denominated palm oil imports.

Risk and Opportunity Window
⚠ Risk Full EUDR implementation raises compliance costs; Indonesia's B40 biodiesel policy pushes up global CPO prices. The weaker euro increases import cost pressure. On the opportunity side, premiums for certified sustainable palm oil are expanding, and the China-Europe Railway Express trade corridor offers Slovakia diversified supply route options.
